About me

I'm Helder, founder and CEO of Newton Labs, an AI-powered recruiting company born as a spin-off from Oxford University Innovation and headquartered in Silicon Valley. I started Newton because I saw a fundamental disconnect in how people find jobs and how companies find talent. The labor market is broken, not for lack of candidates or roles, but because the way supply and demand interact is inefficient and often unfair. My belief: AI can fix that. Newton combines deep learning and natural language processing to help employers hire better, faster. We've operated across the US, Japan, and Saudi Arabia, where we won a national AI & HR competition out of 300 startups. Before going all-in on Newton, I completed a PhD in Neurosciences at the University of Porto and co-founded the company through Oxford University Innovation, which gave me a strong foundation in research, critical thinking, and building things that actually work. I'm currently also CEO of MagicBook, and I've served as Chief Strategy Officer at Artoh. Across all of it, the thread is the same: using technology to solve problems that matter to people.
